is chargeable leave (ordinary, advanced,
excess) requested by a service member to return home or
another place for maternity care or the birth of a
child.
For absences related to pregnancy or prenatal care:
Eligible faculty and staff may use extended sick time
and/or available short-term sick time.
Those who are pregnant on active duty are authorized six
weeks of convalescent leave which is essentially
maternity leave. An additional six weeks of Primary
Caregiver Leave may also be authorized, and a “non-birth
parent” is permitted three weeks of Secondary Caregiver
Leave.
None of these leave options are considered “chargeable”
and they are not deducted from the servicemember’s
accrued leave balance.
In most cases you may also be permitted to request
ordinary leave at the time of childbirth.
